AMPTEC 640SL Ruggedized Explosive Safety Igniter Tester - Versatility and Safety
The AMPTEC 640SL-1 uses a gold plated Reynolds 311 measurement access port/connection. The AMPTEC 640SL-2 uses a four wire Kelvin (J1 type) notched limited access connection port . From components to circuit schematic detail, the entire SE3332 design/drawing package has been frozen for N.E.S Board approval purposes.

Measure on the Go - Sunshine or in the Rain
The AMPTEC 640SL measures electrical resistance using a 2.0 Ohm, 20.0 Ohm, 2.0 KOhm, 200 KOhm, 2.0 MOhm, and a 20.0 MOhm full scale ranges and more . . . The low ohm range (2.0 Ohm Fullscale) makes it ideal for safe use on explosive bridge wire (EBW), squibs and other HE related ordnance. The 20.0 MOhm range is useful for determining “true open circuit continuity status” on igniter wiring to a high level of confidence. The AMPTEC 640SL can also measure "STRAY VOLTAGE" on squib and Explosive Bridge related wiring - as AC or DC RMS voltage up to 200V. Voltage measurement makes the AMPTEC 640SL ideal for safely measuring any residual or stray voltage that may be present on UUT wiring. Foil Calibration Stickers prevent any unauthorized access to the internal 640SL electronics. The AMPTEC 640SL-1 uses gold plated Reynolds 311 connectors for its test lead connection and access to the unit’s functional self test set.
Analog Milliammeter/Voltmeter - Self Check
All AMPTEC 640SL (SE3332) Explosive Safety Testers also have an independent analog DC milliammeter (0 to 10 mA Fullscale) and voltmeter (0 to 2 VDC Fullscale) built-in to it’s test set. The analog DC milliammeter allows the AMPTEC 640SL user to determine with confidence that the unit’s output current levels do not exceed 10 mA failsafe (worst case if it were to have a critical component failure). The independent analog DC milliammeter can be used just prior to connecting the 640SL Tester to an explosive device to provide the user with the confidence that the 640SL Tester is maintaining absolute “safe levels” of test current while measuring igniter resistance.
The new HE Meter for Sandia Labs and US Department of Energy related Labs
From the meter’s electronic components, mechanical packaging to complete circuit schematic detail, the entire 640SL (SE3332) design/drawing package has been reviewed and approved by US Government Explosive Safety Committees personnel. The AMPTEC 640SL is now part of the SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORIES Instrumentation Network. Critical component failure analysis has been performed by U.S. Government Explosive Safety Engineers (both SANDIA and US Department of Energy related Safety Instrumentation engineering) to absolutely and independently confirm/insure the AMPTEC 640SL with any possible single component failure will not exceed 10mA of output or will be less than 1.6 VDC open circuit.

4 Wire Kelvin - Eliminate Test Lead Resistance
The AMPTEC 640SL-2 Explosive Safety Igniter Tester is the 4 Wire Kelvin version of the AMPTEC 640SL Failsafe Ohmmeter (see photo on left ). Four Wire Kelvin resistance measurements automatically compensate for “in-series” resistance offsets/errors and “contact resistance” errors associated with 2 Wire Test lead sets. A 48” long Reynolds 310/311 Adapter (photo shown above) is available as option “640-310” that allows the AMPTEC 640SL-2 Four Wire Ohmmeter circuitry to be terminated with the popular Reynolds 311/310 style male fitting. Reynolds 311 connections are commonly used by Sandia Lab and Lawrence Livermore test personnel when testing Explosive Bridge Wire (EBW) based applications.
Internally Shielded Metallic Faraday Cage
In addition, inside the polypropylene case of the AMPTEC 640SL, the internal chassis area is surrounded by a shielded Faraday cage. The shielded Faraday cage is connected to chassis ground or a case ground common jack - item #14 next page). The internal Faraday cage/shielding completely lines the entire 640SL case on both 640SL-1 and -2. A and all the test lead wiring (ie Vhi, Ihi, etc) is shielded in the 640SL-2 Four Wire Kelvin version. All shielding is connected to chassis ground to provide additional electronic noise immunity, ESD and EMP protection.
