The AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail-Safe Ohmmeter (remains inert even with a worst case component failure) and the AMPTEC 620A-4R Water Resistant version, are a portable, battery powered 4½ digit DC Ohmmeters. They safely measure electrical resistance for use on a variety of potentially hazardous devices. Fail-Safe USAF Approved Igniter Circuit Tester
The AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail Safe Ohmmeter (ICT) has had its circuitry reviewed and approved by USAF NNM Safety Board for use on virtually all squibs (ie: AIM-9 Sidewider Missile Warhead Squibs, C-130 Fire Bottle Squibs for Aircraft Engine Fires etc). This fail-safe (remains inert or safe even with a worst case protective component failure) Ohmmeter EED tester is specifically designed for ultra-safe resistance testing on sensitive or hazardous explosive devices (i.e. squibs, igniters, flares, detonators). The AMPTEC 620A-4 is the only digital fail-safe ohmmeter / safety tester used by the USAF. The USAF Technical Equipment support selected the AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail-Safe Ohmmeter (ICT) to replace all their inventory of the obsolete, discontinued, and potential dangerous Alinco 101-5BFG Ohmmeters. Some competitors may claim to have a Safety Board Approvals but we are the only company to offer proof in writing that the USAF, US NAVY SAFETY OFFICE have Approved and are actively using the AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail Safe Ohmmeter.
The NSN 6625-01-460-1499NM consist of the AMPTEC 620A-4 Igniter Tester, an impact resistant hardshell foam lined carrying case (OP-100), J9 type Amphenol connector adaptor, alligator clip leads, battery charger, manual and US N.I.S.T traceable calibration certificate. AMPTEC 620A-4 Commercial Package
Ideal for general purpose Aerospace applications, the AMPTEC 620A-4 Igniter Tester “Commercial Package” includes a 48″ long set of Gold Plated 4 Wire Kelvin Clip Test Leads (OP300), a set of handheld single pointed probes (OP401- ideal for safely testing recessed squib wiring in contacts and sockets) , test lead storage pouch, battery charger, operator manual (on-line) and US N.I.S.T traceable calibration certificate.
Four Terminal Configuration, Low thermal EMF binding posts and more
Four Terminal Kelvin configuration (Voltage high, Current high, Voltage low and Current low) automatically eliminates major sources of resistance measurement errors such as test lead length resistance and test lead connection contact resistance (see our White Paper on 4-Wire-Kelvin measurements). The ohmmeters gold plated low thermal emf 5 Way binding posts also make it easy to securely connect bare test wires, spade lug wiring and DMM style banana jacks. The AMPTEC 620A-4 Ohmmeter’s 5-way gold plated copper tellurium input jacks are low thermal emf which helps provide accurate low level resistance measurements when temperature differences and dissimilar metals (thermocouple effect) would normally be a measurement problem.
Performing Two-Wire Resistance Measurements
Although the AMPTEC 620A-4 Ohmmeter is a 4 Wire (Four Terminal) Kelvin Failsafe Ohmmeter, there are times when a user may prefer to perform a 2 Wire resistance measurement.There is an application note available that discusses how to make “Two (2) Wire Resistance Measurements” and compensate for the offsets and potential errors that may occur.
